Philly’s Getting Another Hot Dog Restaurant

The Original Hot Dog Factory, a Georgia-born, reality TV-famous chain, is coming to Philadelphia next month. The original, which opened in 2010 in Smyrna, Georgia, is owned by Dennis McKinley, the husband to Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Williams. Fortunately (or unfortunately), Philly’s location will be owned by Aaron Anderson, a franchisee who has no relation to the Real Housewives universe. Really missing Hot Diggity right now.

Philly’s Original Hot Dog Factory will open on February 24th at 125 North 15th Street. Hours will go from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. (in case you needed a breakfast hot dog) on weekdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends. The menu includes steamed, grilled and fried dogs topped with a variety of “globally-inspired toppings.” (All of this is very reminiscent of Destination Dogs, Philly’s other hot-dogs-from-around-the-world restaurant on Walnut Street.) Highlights include the Jamaican Jerk Chicken Dog, topped with grilled pineapples, sweet onions and “sweet island sauce”and the Italian dog, a deep-fried Italian sausage topped with peppers and onions. I’m also interested in the surf’n’turf dog, an all-beef hot dog topped with jump lump crab meat (considering Philly’s longstanding tradition of surf’n’turf hot dogs). They will also serve chicken wings, burgers, fries and corn dog nuggets.
